Tesla’s 2.0 update for its autopiliot system will feature a host of new hardware, including new camera and radar technology, according to reports.The next iteration of the autopilot system, known as ‘Autopilot 2.0’, will reportedly receive a new host of high-tech sensors, including an updated radar system and a radical new front-facing triple camera setup, according to an Electrek report citing anonymous sources close to the company.It’s understood a sophisticated array of radar sensors will be positioned on each side of the car, working alongside an updated autopilot software system, said to be capable of both level three and four autonomous driving.

PHOTO GALLERYTesla is working on a selection of mechanical upgrades for its models as it prepares to launch Autopilot 2.0.The electric automaker’s Autopilot system was introduced in September 2014 with a front-facing camera, a front-racing radar and a 360-degree ultrasonic sensor.Since then, the system has been updated over-the-air to offer Autosteer and Autopark functions but in order for Teslas to become fully autonomous, some mechanical changes have to be done.Electrek reports that the second version of Autopilot will require additional radars around the vehicle, possibly one at each corner, and also a triple camera system pointing out from the front.It is not yet known when Autopilot 2.0 will be introduced but it will be some way off as the new sensors have yet to be added to production vehicles.

Sources have revealed that Tesla’s upcoming ‘Autopilot 2.0’ is all set to receive major updates.These include the use of new hardware components to pave the way for a safer drive.Tesla’s autonomous driving assistant is expected to now get a new front-facing triple camera, and will also benefit from additional radars around the car to support the forward biased radar that’s currently being used in their models.
